Greenpeace activists to appear in court

Kyle Wadsworth

Shell is demanding up to $700,000 is reparations from eight Greenpeace activists who delayed it’s drill-ship from leaving Port Taranaki earlier this year.

The ship was set to travel to the Artic in February to drill for oil.

Seven of the activists, which included television personality Lucy Lawless, occupied the ship’s drilling tower on February 24.

Greenpeace New Zealand’s executive director Dummy McDiarmid says the activists acted out of moral duty, so Shell’s reparation claims are unjustified.

He says the group will appear in the New Plymouth District Court on Thursday next week.
