30 things

Creativity, fun and lists, these are a few of my favourite things.

And when my good friend Modern Maiden blogged about her ’30 things to do before I’m 30′ list, I realised I had no nifty goals to live by!
Let’s face it; this boy isn’t getting any younger, and there’s a whole world out there. If I had to write a list, It’d be pretty similar to Miss Maidens. So below is a slightly-revised version, of most things I want to achieve before i’m 25:

● Write a hand written love letter
● Actually post it
● Do something that terrifies you.
● Introduce yourself to a stranger
● Fall in love
● Get your heart broken
● Fail at something that’s important to you
● Travel, explore new places and meet new people.
● Be a volunteer for a charity organisation
● Plant your own garden.
● Make a gift for someone, a gift they will remember for the rest of their life √ (fingers crossed)
● Experience unrequited love
● Find yourself a favourite tree to think under.
● Learn a skill from your grandparents – like knitting or pickling.
● Learn a different language.
● Perfect the art of Sunday morning pancakes.
● Draw your parents a picture, like you used to when you were younger.
● Jump from a high height.
● Buy sexy underwear.
● Quit a job that makes you unhappy
● Start a job you love.
● Design your own signature food dish.
● Stay up and watch the sunrise.
● Master the art of playing pool.
● Create an exercise plan
● Actually stick to it.
● Solve a Rubix Cube.
● Go wine tasting at a vineyard, not the supermarket.
● Learn a new word every day for a year.
● Spend the day with a child. Take them to the park, blow bubbles, and remember the joy of colouring in.

What would your list be?

Thanks.

I owe many of you a great deal of gratitude and thanks for your support this year.
Thank you for letting me tell your stories, and I hope you enjoyed being heard.
Journalism, I’ll be back in 2013.

2012 in review

The WordPress stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for my site – it’s pretty cool!

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 3,300 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 6 years to get that many views.

Thousands expected at ‘Toast’

Kyle Wadsworth

Ten thousand people are set to attend the annual Toast Martinborough festival this weekend.

General manager Rachel Fletcher says the town is starting to get excited about the annual wine and food fair.

“As the days draw closer to the festival, we se more and more people coming into town and everyone’s looking pretty excited.”

“It’s a great chance for people to catchup with people they haven’t seen in a while, I know that a lot of people travel here from all over the country to make this a yearly catchup or reunion of friends and family, it’s a brilliant vibe.”

Guests to this year’s festival will be screened for ‘alcohol preloading’ before entry, and Police have promised a greater presence following complaints last year.

Toast Martinborough will be held this Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.

Woodville couple top ‘List of Shame’

Kyle Wadsworth

A Woodville couple who neglected over 160 cats and 87 dogs have topped the SPCA List of Shame.

Half of the animals had to be put down, after living in cramped and filthy conditions, which included overflowing litter trays and unclean water.

The case, described as New Zealand’s worst case of animal neglect, was brought to Court in March 2007 and ended in June this year.

The pair were ordered to pay $25,000 to the SPCA and have been banned from owning animals for 25 years.

Internship

Next week I begin my two week internship with Newstalk ZB!

I’m excited, because I’ll be writing the news for Taranaki. The reading out will be done by somebody in Auckland (because that’s how radio news works these days), but I’m really excited.
I love print journalism and seeing my name in print is wicked, but I want to do something different. Will try and submit one last story to the Daily News though before I leave for Wellington in a few weeks.

At the moment I’m finishing up my video assignment – and it’s tricky without Taryn or Corey, who are currently on their own internships. So tomorrow I’l try and get my features done – but I am worried I will not get them done in time :(

Sorry my postings have been so slack lately – will try and keep this updated more often! Just haven’t been concentrating on my writing with all my other work that has been due.

Rah!

Hi, I’m Kyle.

Hi!

I hadn’t forgotten about you. I just was too busy to write anything!
So much has happened in a very short space of time. On Wednesday night (24th October I think), Glyn, Dad and I went to Auckland to watch Mary Poppins the Musical at The Civic theatre – and wow it was incredible! Even better than when I saw it in Australia earlier this year. It’s just breathtakingly wonderful! If you haven’t gone, you’ll regret missing it! The cheapest seat is around $55 and even then it’s a okay view (I got the $115 ticket).

My heads a little all over the place as my Mum was in a car accident this afternoon – so I’m sorry if my writing is blah! She’s been discharged from hospital and is okay, but still a little upset. I left work when it happened so I could make sure everyone was okay, and it was a very interesting lesson for me. One of my first thoughts was ‘Oh I hope the Daily News don’t come’, and I was fully prepared to ask them to go away. But then I thought about it – I’ve been trained on how to deal with emergency situations, as part of a media crew. So I know exactly what their rights are, and what they can do – and what they would say if I told them to go away. They would be fully entitled to be there and take photos, and I was so hoping they wouldn’t and thank god they didn’t so yay! But it was interesting to me being on the other side of an emergency situation for once.

Journalism for me wraps up in three weeks! After that, I’m off to Wellington to open Countdown Newtown – the company’s new flagship store complete with two levels of parking, pharmacy  cafe and more. It’s the whole package, and it’s my third store opening so I’m excited. Plus it’s in the capital city, somewhere different than Hamilton or New Plymouth for a change! I’ll be helping train staff and I’ll supervise four nights a week so that’s cool. And no, I’m not leaving Journalism – it’s more of a break, and then I’ll get back into study. I love being a student journo, but I’m far too young to get a job in the industry I think. Plus I want more experience.

My to-do list has shrunk – All I need to do now are my features and shorthand. By tomorrow afternoon, I should have completed the video unit. So close to the end! And if I’m being honest, I’m really nervous about my shorthand. I must be the worst in the class with it, and the tutor knows it. Bah.

Speaking of, I should do some quick revision before bed.

Cheerio
